Really!?! That’s your biggest question and concern about your site!?! No wonder your site isn’t doing well.
The above may be an extreme response to a very harmless question, but it points to a much larger issue. The issue isn’t with the site button. It’s not with the background color or font. It’s about the questions that people are not asking prior to building and eventually testing their sites or landing pages.
First: What is your business goal? By defining this you can make sure that the voice and message are clear, concise and consistent though out your media outlets.
Second: Who is the Audience? Once this is defined you are able to build the voice and language of the page. You can structure your content game plan to fir the traits of your audience. In a lot of marketing we sometime forget who we’re talking to, and out message gets lost.
Third: What is the Offer? No need build the site if you have no idea what you’re offering. Once again this is important on deciding the voice of the page, and how you’re going to speak to the prospect.
Fourth: What is the desired user action? Now we have an idea on the content, who the user is, and what we’re going to offer. Now we need to decide on what we want them to do. Is it fill out a form to request more info? Purchase a specific product? Download a free PDF or white paper?
Once you have answers to all of these, you are then able to start working on the site and developing the content. At this point you are able to decide if the button should be red. And always remember to test it cause though you heard a red button might work, on your case it could be a green button…
